Responsibilities for Environmental Engineer

As an Environmental Engineer within an Aircraft Platforms and Systems Delivery Team, you will be responsible for providing valuable environmental management advice and playing an active part to deliver high standards of environmental performance, protecting, and enhancing the environment, and seeking new, innovative, and sustainable ways to lighten our environmental footprint. This will include regular interaction with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the equipment end-user. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
* Supporting the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Environmental Management
* Developing, managing and maintaining effective Environmental Management Systems. Identifying and analysing environmental impacts and contributes to the identification and evaluation of risk reduction measures, ensuring that these are adequately documented and managed
* Working with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, MOD regulations and DE&S Policy
* Ensuring compliance with POEMS to ensure that the projects EMS is robust and proportionate to the level of environmental challenge
* Producing, reviewing, endorsing and recommending acceptance of environmental artefacts
* Overseeing the management of contractual aspects to ensure environmental requirements are captured and the management of contractors who perform environmental activities
* Providing informed environmental advice to decision makers through Project Environmental Panels

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:

* You will hold Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional affiliation, supported by holding a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g. HNC) qualification in a relevant Science/Engineering related subject, or demonstrating the equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
* You will hold Practitioner status in Environmental practices or will demonstrate the ability to achieve within 12 months
* You will be a Member of a relevant Professional Environmental Institute, or equivalent body, or have the ability to achieve within 12 months
* You will demonstrate extensive experience in the use of ASEMS and/or POEMS, and use of Environmental Management Tools & Processes
* You will have substantial experience in an environmental protection role and experience of developing an Environmental Management System
* You will have experience of providing technical advice and delivery of environmental products or services from within the Aviation sector
