Our water company client is seeking a Process Scientist to join their Wastewater team based out of Falmer.
The Process Scientist will provide technical support service to sites under area of responsibility including operation of processes (sludge, wastewater, waste management or R&D), implementing operating methods, monitoring and optimisation of quality and performance plus investigating, advising and implementing corrective actions to ensure compliance (legal, health and safety, and regulatory) and the smooth running of plants and sites.
The Process Scientist will provide technical advice to Operations on the operation of Wastewater Treatment processes including setting individual site Operating Plans, monitoring of compliance, power and chemical costs, investigating and advising of corrective actions at wastewater sites for which they are responsible. These are likely to be low impact, low cost decisions (e.g. greasing filters so they work better, adding more chemicals, bringing in extra tankers or skips to clear sludge) which will be taken unilaterally.
Low cost, modest impact decisions affecting operations are likely to be taken in consultation with Field Performance Manager. More complex and/or impactful decisions are likely to be escalated. They will ensure sludge is treated to HACCP standards and they will monitor biogas yields. They will have collective accountability for effluent/product quality alongside other operational staff on site. The role holder determines own work and works independently across the site(s) subject to the above authority levels and limits.
