Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) are working alongside HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and implementing bold plans to transform our IT and digital services. The Team

Service Management & Operations (SM&O) are accountable for the digital strategy and end-to-end IT services to enable us to create a brilliant IT systems and services for the future, as well as focusing is on ensuring consistent, excellent Customer Experience. 

We act as first & second line support for problem resolution and escalation and operate on a rotating shift rota basis from 07:00 to 19:00 and from 19:00 to 07:00 seven days per week. 

 

Role & Responsibilities

We want you to help us to provide an impeccable Technical Batch Support Service. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will be able to utilise your interpersonal skills and “can do” approach to deliver system support expectations and high-quality results. 

You will be responsible for operational activities including batch monitoring, scheduling, and execution of all batch jobs. You will act as first and second line support for problem resolution and escalations, ensuring that all problems are resolved within the appropriate service levels.  

You will liaise with key stakeholders and wider support teams and will collaborate with team to effectively manage events and will promote a preventative culture within Batch Operations. 

Note: Security Clearance (Security Check (SC)) is a key requirement of the role and will be applied for on successful application. 

Essential criteria

You will already have experience and knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of some of the following software packages: VME, UNIX, Linux, SQL, Tivoli WS maestro 8.3 – 8.6+, Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, Office 365. 
  • Experience of using Incident and Event management systems (EG, Assyst, Service Now). 
  • Analytical skills and a methodical approach to problem solving, attention to detail. 
  • Security awareness. 
  • Positive and collaborative team player. 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability and drive to identify, suggest and support service improvements as part of a Continual Improvement Environment approach.  

 

Desirable

  • Demonstrable operational experience of large-scale batch systems would be an advantage. 
  • Ability to work in high pressure environment and, with commensurate training, alone
  • Flexible “can do” approach. 

 

Selection Process 

CVs should clearly demonstrate how the candidate meets the essential criteria stated above. 

Applicants will be sifted based upon contents of the CV providing evidence of the essential criteria. 

If you are successful at the sift stage, you will be invited to interview to demonstrate your suitability. Interviews will focus on your application, knowledge, experience and competence and the essential criteria required.

Sift will be held Friday 17TH December with interviews taking place Week Commencing 3rd January 2022. Due to COVID restrictions interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams.

 HMRC’s Technology Sourcing Programme 

HMRC faces a number of contract expiries combined with the need to re-balance control over its digital and technology capability to ensure HMRC can respond quickly and effectively to changing requirements and priorities.

This is a multi-year programme to transform how HMRC delivers and uses IT. The programme is in place to design and deliver the safe disaggregation, exit and transition of HMRC’s major IT contracts and stand-up new arrangements to deliver both IT run and change activity.

The programme will develop and implement a new technology supply chain model, protect live services, enable the department to remediate and prevent technical debt, reduce risk in our IT estate, improve cost effectiveness, provide flexibility and establish partnerships with suppliers to deliver innovation.
