About the team:

Borders & Trade Group was established as an HMRC Line of Business in early 2019. The Group’s role encompasses the following:

•Continuing to implement HMRC's role in EU transition, maintaining flow of goods across the border, in line with ministerial decisions and funding.

•Operationalising an efficient, effective & compliant border in line with ministerial decisions on UK Customs regime, working with broader HMRC, OGDs and external partners to do this.

•Work with our external partners/customers towards simplifying the customs regime, easing the burden on business and making sure trade works.

•Establishing a future ownership and operating model with clear accountabilities for Customs regime that joins up with the wider HMRC operating model.

•Supporting HMG delivery of the manifesto commitment to introduce UK Freeports.

•Securing trade facilitation and mutual co-operation commitments between the UK and our international partners.

•Long term border and trade strategy development and securing the funding. Strategy & Customer Directorate is one of the six directorates within Borders & Trade Group and was established in September 2020. We provide a cross-cutting support, challenge and enabling function for the Group by performing a range of different but related roles. Job description Our exciting opportunity sits in a newly formed team at the heart of HMRC’s EU Exit delivery agenda and you can help influence and shape the Group Planning & Risk function.

You'll bring experience of working in a challenging environment, working at pace, ability to make effective decisions, and we'll give you the platform to play a key role supporting delivery of UK Transition and UK Border Strategy priorities.

You can expect to be responsible for a range of duties in the Business Planning or the Risk and Monthly Reporting functions of the team, supporting the senior managers on the key areas of work listed in the bullets below, and leading where applicable.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to supporting G6 and G7 leads to ensure delivery of a number of the tasks listed below:

B&T business planning and reporting (principally key issues and risks, hot topics and horizon scanning) to inform group-wide strategic planning.

Co-ordinating papers, reports and briefings for Ministers, ExCom, HMRC Board and other senior-level meetings where required. Engaging with SLT/Private Offices and senior stakeholders/subject matter experts to deliver to tight deadlines.

Developing, establishing and embedding B&T formal group-level structures to track delivery of group-level business commitments and risk management. As part of group monthly reporting, developing and establishing success measures and metrics through a group lens.

Efficiently and proactively managing and supporting priorities and risks and optimising the G7 and G6 Lead’s time.

Co-ordinating inputs for the B&T contribution to HMRC Annual Report and Accounts and HMRC Business Plan, the B&T Governance Statement, HMRC Commitments and other Group level corporate reporting.

•Experience of working in a reporting, briefing or planning role.

•Understanding of how HMRC and government works
