Location

Can be based anywhere in the UK but visits to the main site in the North East will be expected as well as international travel.

Job Description of a Business Development Manager

The postholder will be proactive in business to business sales, selling high value aerospace products to major aircraft manufacturers.

 

  • 75% generating new business with new clients, 25% growing existing clients
  • working within a high pressure, fast paced and results oriented environment
  • working out of a central location in NE England, with some home working and a substantial requirement for global travel.
  • high level of autonomy but with managerial oversight and the support of an experienced team

 

Key tasks:

 

  • pro-active prospecting to generate leads within large aerospace organisations
    • using tools such as LinkedIn, networking and cold calling to develop contacts and business conversations with mid to senior level managers in large aerospace organisations
    • typical contacts are purchasing agents, purchasing directors and design engineers
  • typically prospects already have a supplier, so selling the ‘value’ of what we do is key
  • disqualifying the wrong opportunities & qualifying the right opportunities, to focus time and resource in the right areas
  • negotiate strongly with clients to achieve required price point
  • progressing deals to completion through a complex decision process & a long sales cycle (3-months to 2 years).

 

Skills & experience of a Business Development Manager

This would suit a Senior Sales Engineer looking for their next career step. There is no staff management responsibility for this role

Aerospace industry knowledge is essential

Previous successful sales experience

Comfortable making outbound sales calls

Able to engage multiple decision makers, move the sales process forwards, respond to objections & get decisions. 

Effective negotiation skills

Clear and correct verbal and written communication style:

  • Strong English language to come across as professional and intelligent
  • Excellent written spelling & grammar.
