The defence sector is constantly changing; Defence Equipment & Support need engineers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to look ahead to new technologies.

We have several career opportunities available for Systems Engineers within the Integrated Battlespace Operating Centre (IBOC). The IBOC delivers a diverse portfolio of mission-critical programmes to all four Front Line Commands. The programmes and projects are complex and delivered in rapid turnaround times.

The scope of the delivery teams within the IBOC cover: Communications, Information, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems, Ground-Based Air-Defence, Information Systems and Networks. The successful candidates will be assigned to one of these areas depending on their experience.

We want to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: Sensors & Electronics, Electrical, Communications, Electronic Warfare, Systems & Integration, and or Software.

At DE&S, our Systems Engineers are responsible for managing engineering risk and acting as an intelligent customer on engineering design and development, whilst establishing architectures of systems to deliver military capability for the future.

This is an opportunity to join one of our integrated teams of highly skilled professionals, where you will help ensure the platforms, systems and equipment is procured and delivered to the UK military front-line, for safe operational use.

Please note that due to the nature of the projects involved, these roles are reserved for sole UK Nationals only. Some of these positions will be required to undertake DV clearance once in the post.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of these posts will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Manage the delivery of all engineering aspects in area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance in own technical area to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks.
  • Manage the technical requirements for the acquisition lifecycle stage of one or more project, programme, service, or system.
  • Monitor and implement any governance and assurance policies and procedures to ensure the 'safe & professional' status of the area led.
  • Lead on the development of requirements related to own area of specialism including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications.
  • Interface with industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of application risks.

What you will be assessed against

To be found successful you must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent suitable experience.
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following engineering disciplines - Sensors & Electronics, Electrical, Communications, Electronic Warfare, Radar, Systems & Integration, or Software.
  • A depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with knowledge and application of Systems Engineering approaches.
  • Able to develop well-formed requirements and evaluate technical solutions against verified acceptance criteria whilst promoting best practice.
  • Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes.

It would benefit your application should be able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:

  • ISTAR experience (including Electronic Warfare, Command & Control, and Weapons & Sensors)
  • Previous experience working within the defence industry.
