The Business

Our client, a regular on things like “Times best place to work” and “Sunday Times fast track” is a really impressive employer. They have tried to create a perfect environment to attract, recruit and hire the best developers around… people like you. Recent success has meant that they are growing the team (again) and looking for the top 5-10% of developers available. The new Developer will work on their flagship products and services that have had a huge uptake in their usage, specifically in the U.S.

 

The Team

The UK Software Engineering team is one of those teams that is not just solid technically, but understand Software Engineering, problem solving and how to innovate. They are essentially all operating at Senior/Lead Developer level and utilise an overseas team to assist with development – however, they are currently insourcing that function (and hiring up to 20 Developers). any Developer joining the UK team will work on building robust, scalable, high availability, software whilst being a thought leader on the product development aspects.

The Software Engineer will own their own domain and work closely with the product team, also based in the UK and be a big knowledge sharer of research they do. It is a reasonably small team of 5-7 Developers but looking to be around 30, by the end of the year.

 

This specific opportunity

Although the company is hiring a whole bunch of staff due to bringing a Development team into the UK, this role is actually a replacement for someone moving into more of an SRE type role. As you can probably tell from the move that this person made, they had become particularly strong on the DevOps aspect and ended up having a “t-shaped” Full Stack Developer skillset leaning towards technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform and Azure – which is why these specific skills (or a desire to work with them), is required in the replacement. You will be the “go-to” Developer (there will be two specific DevOps Engineers hired down the line) for DevOps type issues, whilst also being able to deliver on backend development duties.

  • Maybe a bit of embedded systems
  • Some Hardware integration testing
