About the Customer Compliance Group & COPS Digital Tactical Solutions

HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group (CCG) is larger than most government department with c.25,000 colleagues in locations across the UK. It is at the heart of our transformation and is responsible for delivering the department’s high-profile and reputation-critical compliance activities. CCG has unparalleled scale, breadth and impact within HMRC and is also involved in critical cross-Government initiatives and priorities.

Tax evasion and avoidance, fraud and organised crime are among HMRC’s most high-profile issues. They require both internal and external engagement along with proactive management of the with their operations and policies. CCG is also responsible for HMRC-wide and cross-Government initiatives, requiring co-operation, influence and engagement beyond the department.

The COPS Digital Tactical Solutions Team (DTaS) maintain and govern Business Developed Applications across HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group.

This newly formed team brings together BDApp development across Compliance, to ensure consistency and visibility. Job description This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high performing development team within Compliance Operational Process & Systems (COPS).

You will be given ongoing support for your development and training, exploring new technologies and learning from others. You’ll be working with fellow developers and internal customers to design and deliver technical solutions, with opportunities to collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders and raise the profile of the team.

As a developer within Customer Compliance, you will provide crucial support to our internal systems and applications, contributing to overall compliance activity within HMRC.

Responsibilities • Developing and delivering software either through full-stack development or part of a team effort to meet CCG Business needs.

• Writing clean, secure and well-tested code written in modern coding languages (e.g. SQL, Mongo, C#, Angular).

• Actively engaging, being proactive and applying new technology in line with team direction.

• In-flight technical management of full stack developments aligned to business logic.

• Coaching and mentoring of colleagues, acting as reference point for others, e.g. giving advice or guidance.

• Maintaining services/tools that you build and identify issues in production.

• Communicating with a broad range of stakeholders/colleagues at all levels, using sound analytical skills and good judgement.

• Outlining and securing agreement of proposed actions/work and writing detailed reports, attending meetings, negotiating, discussing and understanding issues.

• Thinking innovatively and quickly, responding to problems or requests for which there is no obvious/immediate answer.

• Collaborating with users and representatives from the Business, understanding their needs and offering recommendations on the best tools and methods.

• Promoting knowledge sharing and best practice.

Essential Criteria

• Ability to write in modern coding languages, including C# and SQL.

• Previous experience of developing applications to meet Business user needs.

• Hold certified qualifications at CDIO apprenticeship Level 6, or be prepared to undertake training to work towards gaining qualifications when you start in your role.

Desirable Criteria

• Professional qualification in Computer Science Technical skills
