My client is recruiting for a Project Manager in the Water Sector

Summary of role:

To lead and project manage all elements of larger and complex contract execution from planning to closure, which encompasses project engineering, project customer[s] liaison, project purchasing, expediting, site supervision and commissioning. Role will require the management of multiple projects, volume determined by the mix of complexity.

Accountable for ensuring that work is executed to client satisfaction within the stated timescales, within the stated budgets in compliance with the contractual specifications and contract terms that are in place and in line with all current company procedures.

Responsible for managing the project stakeholders, project team, communication, adherence to the project schedule, and resolution of project conflicts. Responsible for the closing contract or transferring of contract to aftermarket/service as appropriate.

In conjunction with sales account managers develops and implements strategies to continue and/or strengthen business with customer

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the generation and execution of the project plans, ensuring that everyone on the team knows and executes his or her role, feels empowered and supported in the role, knows the roles of the other team members.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and effectively controlling the project and client/ supplier relationship keeping accurate records from meetings, correspondence and reports to support a healthy commercial standing for the assigned project throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Responsible for liaising with the client and sales to ensure that the technical specifications and commercial requirements of the assigned projects are clearly understood by self and all relevant project team members.
  • Will use knowledge of contract to develop and agree project approach with the client and internal stakeholders.
  • Responsible for Project Engineers who execute projects under supervision of the Project Manager.
  • Will define the specification requirements to internal colleagues for the evaluation and selection of suppliers, selection of components etc.
  • Responsible for measuring project performance and progress, coordinating, communicating and monitoring the structured schedule of work and activity against defined milestones, and deliverable items of the project. Responsible for managing, monitoring and maintaining full and comprehensive project documentation.
  • Will understand the Health & Safety requirements of the contract and promote the necessity for a safe working environment throughout all aspects of the contract.
  • Accountable for the preparation and execution of subcontracts for product, material and labour recruitment.
  • Responsible for the financial control of allotted contracts. Will prepare each month a fully expensed cost-to-date and forecast for each allotted contract and manage cash flow & invoicing, define non-conformance costs - NCC and contract variations - PCC.
  • Responsible for managing and mitigating the project risk, utilizing the project risk register and reporting significant risks through the appropriate channels.
  • Will meet all the reasonable demands placed upon the role, with regard to the given workload at any given time. Will prepare, and justify resource requirements, permanent and temporary, to meet this workload.
  • Will promote, and comply with the Company Quality Assurance system, to meet current and future requirements. Will identify and suggest improvements to the said system.

Knowledge/Skills required:

  • Engineering qualification HNC/HND/degree or similar
  • Experience of executing contracts in the water industry (or similar industry).
  • A fundamental engineering knowledge with the ability to read engineering drawings, understand schematics and an understanding of the basic flow of work through a project department. (Electrical drawings/schematics; Pneumatic drawings/schematics; Mechanical drawings)
  • A working knowledge of Construction & Design Management (CDM), Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Health & Safety Plans, and the role of the company as a Principal Contractor.
  • Sound commercial awareness
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy: Excel; Word; Power point; Microsoft Project; Microsoft Outlook
  • The ability to work on an individual basis as well as circumstances dictates as part of a larger group.
  • Experience in project execution methodologies, including but not limited to Stakeholder Management, Risk Management, Definition, Scope Management, Claim Management, Project Quality Management, Scheduling, Resource Management, Project Management Plan, Change Control, Cost Management, Earned Value Management, Handover Closeout, Professionalism and Ethics, Project Sponsorship Project Finance and Legal awareness.
  • Technical understanding and experience of working with ISO 9001 accredited quality procedures/ management system
  • Ability to undertake decisions that are in the best interests of the company and the project, whilst understanding the effect on timescales, the financial impact, the engineering consequence
