Job Description:

  • You will have procured and worked with external suppliers to develop a website and improve user experience, including taking a new site through private and public beta testing. You will have a strong understanding of the interface between publishing and development, and know how to brief developers

    You will champion accessibility and user-centred design, and have experience of advising people on the best content design tools and methods, while balancing these against our strategic requirements from content and capabilities and taking a pragmatic approach to content presentation
  • Essential knowledge and skills
    ability to create content that meets user needs and business objectives
  • ability to use analytics data, user research and other evidence to improve content and make recommendations
  • understanding of the interface and ability to brief and work closely with developers
  • a strong understanding of SEO (search engine optimisation) and how this will affect the content you create
  • strong understanding of website performance and evaluation measures
  • ability to explain content best practice to non-experts in, for example, presentations or workshops
  • ability to build relationships and work closely with content owners or subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate and consistent
  • ability to make complex content easy to understand using plain English
  • ability to write and edit using a style guide
  • a good working knowledge of accessibility and designing accessible content.

  • experience of making significant strategic and pragmatic recommendations about content creation and presentation
  • experience of taking a new website through private and public beta testing phases and launch
  • experience of managing the end-to-end content workflow for a website
  • experience of applying user-centred content design within your organisation
  • experience of using content management systems
  • experience of managing people, including reviewing their work and providing feedback
  • experience of advising colleagues on the best content design tools and methods
  • experience of procuring external suppliers, managing contracts and relationships
  • experience of managing external suppliers and multidisciplinary teams to develop a website and improve user experience.
