Green Tech Front End Developer – React - TypeScript

Location: Edinburgh or London – hybrid remote 4.5 days as standard (33.75h)

Salary: £30K - £45k, depending on experience + benefits

They’re leading the off-grid renewables revolution, empowering people to set up their own businesses and create jobs, utilising their platform to deliver services; data insights, tracking emissions and energy production, payment services and, eventually, carbon crediting.

Communities around the world are suffering the direct impacts of extreme climate events already. Reliance on burning wood for everyday cooking has a lasting impact on peoples’ overall health.

These communities are deeply connected to nature and know they need to decarbonise and avoid cutting trees, but don’t always have the equipment, hardware or the support to do so, especially not at the scale needed.

The solution isn’t one company becoming big enough to solve all of its problems. The solution is enabling thousands of companies in the communities themselves to drive the transition on the ground.

This role will focus on the front end but being a small team there will be some work on the backend and their database that you’ll need to get stuck in with.

There’s room for someone full stack but early days you’ll focus on adding new features using React and Typescript. So, you need some commercial experience using those and working closely with UIUX designers and product managers to refine ideas and designs, bringing to life user requirements.

React and Typescript are necessities, but then there are lots of “nice to have’s” due to the nature of a small team. Any interest or passion for data, machine learning, embedded development, Python and Django, GraphQL, or if you’d like to learn Flutter and mobile development, those would all stand out too.

It’s hard to properly explain how much good this company are doing because they’re not just creating climate solutions, but a platform that others can use to build their businesses and scale up action and delivery of renewables in developing countries.

In Nigeria alone, there are around 100 million diesel generators. In South America, Asia, and Africa, there are countries with huge portions of their population who are living at the whim of fuel prices, grafting just for the privilege of giving their kids asthma to power the cooker or TV.

The team works in a hybrid remote style, so you’ll decide with them how to work best. There’s a lead, senior and mid-pushing-senior dev, so some good people to learn from and further growth is planned for a data scientist and another developer.
