HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group (CCG) is larger than most government department with over 27,000 colleagues in locations across the UK. It is at the heart of our transformation and is responsible for delivering the department’s high-profile and reputation-critical compliance activities. CCG has unparalleled scale, breadth and impact within HMRC and is also involved in critical cross-Government initiatives and priorities.

Customer Compliance Group (CCG) plays a pivotal role in maximising the collection of the correct amount of money due from UK taxpayers, investigating breaches and offences against the tax system, and acting to identify and mitigate potential threats. Job description Our Customer Compliance Managers (CCMs) are experienced tax professionals and oversee HMRC’s compliance activities and the relationship between the business and HMRC across all applicable taxes and duties. They deal with some of the largest businesses in the UK including household names. As a CCM you will be the face of HMRC with your Customers, building relationships in order to facilitate compliance.

You will work with an experienced Team of CCMs, leading teams of Tax Specialists to deliver HMRC’s work, this includes Risk Assessments, Risk Working, and real time issues and queries. Responsibilities As a Customer Compliance Manager in Large Business, you will be responsible for the delivery of our Customer Strategy. You will do this by managing the relationship between customers and HMRC.

You will:

• Establish, build and maintain professional relationships with key senior customers across tax and business responsibilities.

• Develop an understanding of the customer and their business drivers including attitudes to risk and compliance influencing their thinking and approach to tax.

• Lead a team of tax and other professionals in assessing and dealing with tax risk in Large Business.

• Discuss, explore and resolve conceptual tax/tax planning issues, identifying and resolving any differences of the risk view between the business and HMRC, encouraging a 'Low Risk' approach.

• Manage complex, sensitive and potentially challenging reputational issues.

• Prepare an integrated risk assessment for the business and work collaboratively in planning any future interventions, ensuring that they fully reflect and are appropriate to the risks of the business.

• Ringmaster all communications and interventions, bringing in HMRC specialists, ensuring successful delivery of outcomes.

• As the key contact, ensure customers are kept informed about how issues are being progressed, when they can expect to receive a reply, and managing situations where delays have arisen due to complexities or difficulties.

Essential Criteria

• Strong verbal and written communications.

• ONE of the following qualifications:

• CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser)?.

• Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies membership qualification (such as ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA).

• Hold an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT).

• Be a qualified solicitor with post qualification experience one of the tax duties specified under the job description.

• HMRC’s TSP or predecessor qualification (TPDP, ITS2, CPT, FT2).

• VLTT (VAT Legal & Technical Training) plus passed subsequent examinations.

• AIIT (Associate of the Institute of Indirect Taxation).

• VAT TPQs (Tax Professional Qualification Levels 5 & 6, 35 credits).
