Lamonby Recruitment have an exciting new opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join a leading packaging specialist near Bedford.
Primary work is mechanical assembly of tool units. The units are incorporated in our range of capping presses which are sold worldwide and used mainly in the food industry.
The role consists of building new units and refurbishment of used units to as new condition. The fitter performing this task builds and tests the complete unit from start to finish. Typically, a unit will take around one week to complete, although this does vary depending on the type.
All components for the units are pre-manufactured prior to the start of the build. On units being refurbished a certain amount of rework of existing parts may be required.
Mechanical Fitter Role
Setting of punches and dies.
Building and setting of forming assembly.
Building and setting of ejection systems (mechanical and air).
Achieving critical dimensions via machining.
Functional testing at operational speeds.
Fault finding and rectification.
To work as part of the press tool unit assembly team.
To fit, assemble, and test tools and tool units and all associated parts and assemblies.
To ensure that all parts and assemblies are correctly fitted and assembled together in accordance with the agreed tolerances and procedures.
To build new tool unit assemblies and repair and refurbish existing tool units.
To carry out testing of the tool units in accordance with agreed procedures.
To assist with the building or repair of complete press assemblies when required.
Carry out routine maintenance and unplanned service work as and when required including out-of-hours breakdowns.
Work in accordance with Company procedures and specific guidelines and terms of reference at all times.
Carry out your duties at all times in compliance with all applicable Laws and with Customer's plant regulations and with due regard for the Health and Safety of others.
Carry out such other tasks as may from time to time be requested, provided they are within the competence of the job holder.
Role Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Mechanical Fitter
Experience as a tool maker would be beneficial
Candidates who have experience with machine tooling will be looked highly upon.
Excellent Health & Safety knowledge and application.
Well organised with the ability to multi task.
A positive ‘Can do’ attitude with a flexible approach to work.
Normal hours of work will be 7.45 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. Monday to Thursday with 30 minutes for lunch each day, and 7.45 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. on Friday. (Nominal 37 hours). When required, you will be expected to work any additional hours which may become necessary from time to time and will receive overtime payments in accordance with the agreed rates.
