The clients are the market leading provider of automated digital microscopes for use in digital pathology and remote diagnostic applications. Having recently engaged with two significant distribution agreements the business is growing.

With a combination of existing and new products we have an exciting future in supporting the existing product range as well as new product development to meet our growing market demands.

The clients have a portfolio of hardware and software products used in the digital microscopy field, primarily, but not exclusively used in medical pathology for the diagnosis of serious disease. We have a well-established customer base with which we supply components, sub-systems, or complete fully automated digital microscope.

The Job

The key task of the software team is the support of existing products and customers. This is both maintenance of existing code as well as bug fixing, improvements and feature addition. As part of this, the team will be defining and implementing a software development workflow to ensure reliability and integrity of the software products and ensuring compliance the standards appropriate for medical devices. You will be reporting to the software engineering manager, and you will be developing software for our range of medically certified slide scanners while working within an ISO13485 framework for software development. The work involves maintenance of existing code as well as development of new features. The code is a combination of a C# + WPF GUI with COM components written in C++ using ATL and COM.

The Main duties

  • Agreeing and publishing a coding standard
  • Migrating all Visual Studio projects from 2012 to 2019
  • Migrating from Perforce to Git
  • Implementing test methods where appropriate for regression testing
  • Implementing a QA process that includes peer review and checks that ensure the above does not break the current product range.

Main Skills required

  • Strong Experience in C++ on windows platform
  • Strong experience of C# on Windows platform

Desirable skills

  • Experience of image processing in a scientific application
  • Optimising design for performance
  • Understanding of COM interfaces
  • Experience of working within ISO13485 for medical devices.
  • Experience in alternative fields requiring the discipline of software development processes such as Automotive or Aerospace will also be considered.
