Tooling Design Engineer


Job Description:

Our new Tooling Design Engineer will support the Tool Design Engineering Group Leader in fulfilling all steady state tool design requirements. They will be expected provide their specialist support across all work streams, whilst working to our procedures and standards.

How You'll Contribute
In this role, you will work closely with colleagues in Supply Chain, Tool Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Operators on the Shopfloor, to:

  • Maintain the assembly build jigs and support the tooling philosophy to ensure alignment with the manufacturing process and build philosophy
  • Develop operational tooling concepts at the request of value streams, investigate and design schemes for process improvements, investigate build issues, estimate and supply design costs
  • Project manage the design phase on tooling projects, ensuring capture of all lessons learnt from previous projects
  • Develop storage and transportation fixtures concepts to ensure concepts support the capability and rate capacity
  • Compile and support data exchange forms and monitor through data exchange process and record all tooling data movements between tooling supply base and customer
  • Provide drawings and support engineers
  • Support the Tooling Engineering Group Leader with changes to Tooling Procedures
  • Ensure you are 'up to date' with technical knowledge, including tool recertification requirements, ICY requirements relating to tooling, lifting and handling regulations applicable to tooling

  • An 'in depth' knowledge of Technical Drawing procedures, practices and GD&T
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong desire to innovate
  • High level of motivation combined with inter-personal and influencing skills
  • Experience using Catia V4/5, Autocad, CADDS 5, SAP (ability to read TDFs etc.) is desirable
  • Knowledge of assembly processes and experience in tooling production for aerospace industry is desirable
