HMRC has developed a new corporate intranet to improve the working lives of our 65,000 colleagues. The new intranet will be where we share engaging and exciting content and it will also help colleagues to do their job more efficiently, saving them time by reducing their administrative burden.

A two-year programme is underway, firstly to ensure a successful transition of content from Drupal to our new SharePoint platform in summer 2022, followed by a second phase that looks at how the new technology can be exploited to improve things further for our colleagues.

About Internal & Change Communications

This role sits in the Internal and Change Communications team that supports our objective of making HMRC a great place to work by using the latest digital communications approaches to engage our audiences.

The team works closely with colleagues across HMRC Communications and the wider business to ensure that our workforce can deliver at their best and have a community we can all take pride in. Job description This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the delivery and development of a major internal communications channel from the very start, helping our 65,000 colleagues find out what they need to know, and do what they need to do, as simply and as quickly as possible.

HMRC Communications will own the new SharePoint-based intranet and the Intranet Content and Community Lead will be responsible for the implementation and evolution of our content management strategy, ensuring users receive high quality, relevant and accurate content.

You will be empowered to drive forward content improvements across the intranet using data, customer feedback and technical developments to ensure we are offering our colleagues the best possible experience and that the intranet is delivering for the organisation and its people.

The successful candidate will also have responsibility for implementing new ways of working across a newly established community of content creators that are based in business areas. The ability to inspire, influence and develop this community will be key to this role.

The role involves leading a new team of content designers, editors and community engagement colleagues, ensuring their work is joined up and focussed on achieving maximum impact and feels integrated into our modern internal communications function.

The role will report to the Lead Product Manager and will form part of the wider Internal and Change Communications wider senior leadership team. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

As the Intranet Content and Community Lead you will:

• Continuously improve intranet content through the delivery and development of the content management strategy.

• Use a range of qualitative and quantitative data to measure the performance of content and make improvements as a result.

• Have responsibility for the engagement, training and development of the content creator community, based in business areas.

• Coach, mentor and develop the skills of your team to support a collaborative working environment and flexible approach to delivery.

• Work closely with the Lead Product Manager and other members of the Internal and Change Communications team to ensure the intranet is embedded as a key channel in our work.

• Develop an in-depth understanding of intranet content and be equipped to represent the platform and its users’ needs at all levels within the organisation.

Essential Criteria

You would be expected to have experience and demonstrate the following skills:

• Experience of devising a content management strategy and implementing this across an organisation, putting support in place to ensure content is created and maintained to a high standard.

• Experience of leading and developing a large-scale forum or community to achieve a common goal.

• The ability to lead and develop impactful teams; including growing and diversifying capability; creating a culture of inclusion, innovation, creativity and continuous improvement.

• Experience of using data to monitor the performance of content and use it to drive improvements.

Desirable criteria

• Managing digital products in a complex organisation, working with multidisciplinary, agile teams, from discovery to delivery

• Working knowledge of content design principles and accessibility best practice.

• Experience of building strong relationships with different types of stakeholders (e.g. customers, senior leaders and suppliers) Behaviours

Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
