Are you a specialist SEN Teacher with experience supporting Autistic Spectrum Disorder pupils? Are you looking for a new role? 

A vacancy has become available for an experienced SEN Teacher to join a well-resourced, specialist Autistic Spectrum Disorder unit within a primary school in Wimbledon.

The school

The unit is for primary aged children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) showing a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) / Complex Communication Difficulties (CCD). The philosophy of the unit is one of building and maintaining relationships with the children based on a thorough understanding of their individual needs. Pupils in the unit are grouped in the class of 6 according to ability rather than age. 

The  unit operates alongside the main school and pupils are integrated where possible according to individual children and their needs and abilities. 

Within the school, staff use a multi-disciplinary approach where all parties, including parents, work together to plan and deliver meaningful learning experiences. Staff develop a through understanding of each pupil's needs and plan curriculum to meet these needs.

The unit includes a sensory room, soft play room, occupational therapy room and indoor and outdoor play areas.  The unit has it's own mini-bus for offsite learning opportunities.

The Role

As the SEN Teacher you will be the main class teacher for a class of 6 pupils. You will have a comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience of working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder from previous roles and have a true passion for supporting pupils to succeed in all areas of learning.

You will be well-supported in your teaching role with 2 full-time teaching assistants supporting the class. In addition there are a team of Speech and Language therapists, Drama therapist and Occupational therapists employed within the unit. You will also be supported by external agencies within Sutton

You will have access to regular CPD courses with other staff and individually.

This role is offered on a 1 year contract basis basis and paid according to experience.

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Experience teaching Autistic Spectrum Disorder pupils
  • Experience in all or some of the following: TEACCH, Makaton, Pecs
