We are looking for Carpenter to join our team at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, Somerset.

This is an exciting time to join the G4S Facilities Management Team at Hinkley Point C. We are three years into our ten year contract, working on the largest construction site in Europe. 

The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Construction and operation of Hinkley Point C will create 25,000 employment opportunities, up to 1,000 apprenticeships and 64% of the project’s construction value is predicted to go to UK companies. There are currently over 4,000 workers on site.

 

This is a full time role working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 0800 - 1700. The salary for this role is £30,492.11 per annum.

As a Carpenter, Supporting the Operations and Project Manager in the delivery of fit out and building fabric alteration works. Working across a range of minor building fabric projects including project inception and planning.

Skilled in working with wood, plasterboard and door hanging the project carpenter will be required to complete a number of minor building reconfigurations across a dynamic site. The list of skills and duties is not exhaustive however a full range of general handyman tasks are required to be performed in order to fulfill this role.

 

Key Responsibilities of this role are:

  • Work as part of a project team to dismantle old, and, erect new walls and ceilings

  • Tape and joint plasterboard partition walls

  • Hanging of internal wooden doors and fixing of ironmongery

  • Painting and decorating

  • Cutting in of internal and external windows

  • General handyman tasks in line with general fabric building maintenance

  • To perform reactive repair and maintenance tasks as designated by HPC Helpdesk team.

  • To perform planned Workspace Re-engineering tasks as required

  • Raise work requests through the CAFM system to ensure full traceability of works carried out.

  • To assist in review of CAD layout drawings for minor building fabric

  • Perform the duties of an Accompanying Safety Person.

  • To provide holiday/sickness cover within the FM maintenance team.

  • To complete daily plant monitoring duties and record details

  • Ensure that at all times, the image of the contract reflects the professional image of the Company.

  • To follow Health and Safety Policy and Safe Systems of Work Procedures

  • To comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and emergency procedures as required.

  • Work with other craft qualified, semi-skilled and non-skilled maintenance staff to develop cross-skilling and cover all levels and aspects of maintenance activities on a team work basis

  • Supervise and co-ordinate subcontractors to meet the needs of the business

  • Maintenance inspection and repairs to various assets, building fabric and estate, e.g. furniture, internal and external fixtures and fittings, grounds, access and parking, etc.

  • Participate in on call duties

  • Manage, co-ordinate and participate in permit responsibilities

  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, and be an effective and proactive team player.

  • To carry out Health and Safety responsibilities as per G4S Corporate Part B Responsibilities document

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Essential Requirements are:

  • Fully qualified Carpenter

  • Experience of general building fabric alterations

  • Experience of working with plasterboard (tape and joint)

  • Full, clean driving licence
