Novum Personnel are proud to be working with Teesside Hospice on an exciting new role for within their team, this is a brand new exciting opportunity to support within their HR team 

This amazing opportunity as a HR Assistant to help shape our volunteer programme and ensure that we provide an outstanding experience for our key stakeholders - the Hospice's volunteers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic HR Assistant to join Teesside Hospice to work alongside the existing HR team to help develop our volunteer experience.

The HR Assistant (in conjunction with the HR Manager), will support the implementation and delivery of our Volunteer strategy to provide an inclusive and impactful volunteering programme which develops and maintains key networks within the community as a whole.

The successful post holder will manage all volunteer administration throughout the volunteer life cycle including recruitment, reward and recognition, communication, training and development. You will work with departments and support them on the day-to-day administration and be the point of contact for our volunteers and their activities.

You will also seek to develop and nurture links with the community through groups such as: schools, universities, Local Authorities and wider community groups to identify potential volunteering opportunity avenues in the future for the Hospice. 

Key Administrative Tasks undertaken will be:

  • Coordinate all administrative duties relating to the volunteer recruitment process for the Hospice (both in the Hospice itself and our Retail Outlets)
  • Help collate information and write detailed role descriptions for each volunteer role.
  • Ensure all roles are advertised on all relevant portals
  • Work closely with and build relationships with organisations and community groups who specialise in the roles you are working on
  • To administer all paperwork relating to volunteers from: recruitment, the on boarding process to change and leaver processes
  • Support the HR Manager to continue to review the Volunteer experience across the organisation focusing on recognition for Volunteers.

About You:

You will be forward thinking and flexible, actively looking at ways to continually improve our volunteer programme. You will demonstrate an awareness of the value of volunteers and play a key role in developing innovative recruitment and induction methods that work across the organisation. You will be comfortable speaking to people to help us to increase awareness within our community of the variety of volunteering opportunities that are available, whether it’s someone to help with a one-off event or someone who wants to give their time on a regular basis as one of our reception, coffee shop, hospice, or shop volunteers.

You will need to be highly organised with excellent time management and prioritisation skills. You will need to have great communication and people skills and have the ability to work unsupervised at times and meet deadlines with strong IT skills including MS Office.

You will ideally have previous experience of HR Administration or similar such as recruitment and development, and/or experience of working with and supporting volunteers. CIPD qualified or working towards this is preferable but not essential.

You will need to have regular access to a vehicle as the role involves attendance at external volunteer recruitment events, networking and engaging with the community as well as visiting our sites and shops to stay connected with volunteers. Our shops cover a wide part of the Teesside area, from Yarm to Skelton and most places in between.  Whilst the role is based at the hospice site, your time will be split between the Hospice and our Linthorpe Road Income Generation office as the role involves engaging with managers and volunteers on a regular basis. 

There is some scope for occasional home working. This would be discussed in interview.
