Job Description: We are looking for a Chief Engineer for a Secure IP WAN defence programme to join Airbus Defence and Space in Newport.  You will join the connected intelligence programme line and report directly to the Head of "Chief Engineering" Overview: Heading up the UK team, you will be part of a multinational division with locations/teams based in France and Germany as well who you will interact with on a regular basis  
You will lead the overall design, development and qualification/certification of a product (or a family of products) to satisfy customer and regulatory requirements and programme cost and schedule needs.
  You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance. Tasks and Accountabilities: You will be responsible for technical definition, engineering deliverables, schedule, cost, quality and risk management aspects up to final customer acceptance.
Working hand-in-hand on a daily basis with the Programme manager, the Chief Engineer is expected to: Ensure the overall end-to-end technical consistency, compliance and E2E performance of the solution through the entire life-cycle (from contract signature to in-service operation), Collect and understand customers' requirements, programme's requirements and applicable obligations, Identify the right Centres of Competence - CoC(s) and Enablers to provide technical solutions, assets, knowledge or services that contribute to the overall solutions Allocate the contract requirements and cascade the necessary detail technical requirements, key decisions and milestones for the technical solutions delivered by the CoC(s) Setup the relevant System Engineering disciplines and competences to support the entire life-cycle. Define, evaluate and decide on trade-offs, e.g. technical trade-offs, costs, value, manufacturing, service and risks Ensure applicable regulations and standards, product compliance and safety, data protection and reliability requirements are considered and handles Manage and achieve accreditation / certification of the product, where necessary and appropriate Tailor the processes, methods and tools at the appropriate level in collaboration with Engineering and Project Quality management Ensure the workload planning and related competency needs are in line with the CoC(s) capabilities This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. Skills and Experience: This role requires someone with strong leadership and communication skills who also has a relevant technical background
A diploma in Engineering (or equivalent) and a number of years working in industry, during which you will have acquired the following skills: System Engineering practices along the project life cycle and associated method and tools Practical application of the both V-method and Agile frameworks (Certification is a plus) Technical background in resilient IP networks, meshed and large scale IP WAN, Network management and IP gateway for interfacing legacy network The knowledge of the UK MoD and governmental communication networks is a plus,  Practical application of Project management in the respect of Quality, Time and Cost principles Practical knowledge of UK public procurement contract, Good ability of listening and analysis of the operational needs and requirements, Balanced ability in making  trade-offs and in taking strong and controversial positions Capability to work with multidisciplinary, multicultural and multi-sites team What Airbus can offer you: A competitive salary with annual profit share an ever growing list of company benefits including enhanced pay for maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave  Very strong, very real career development options across our transnational, market leading company.
