Has your job been impacted by COVID-19? Have you used the last few months to think about what you want to do next? Is…
Did you get rejected from a job? Are you struggling with not getting the job? Don’t worry as this is just part of the job hunting process and the concerns about not finding the right job for you will pass. Getting told that you didn’t get the job is an unpleasant experience for anybody but other jobs will become available. What should you do when you get rejected?
Take the experience of not getting the job as a learning process. Analyse what you did, what went well, what didn’t go well and then take it with a pinch of salt and start moving forward with your job search.
“Today was not a good day in the job hunting process, but it’s OK. Don’t let the negativity take over this gruelling process. Remember where your passions root from. Smile and encourage yourself. After all, you are your biggest supporter.”
Get feedback
It can be hard to gain feedback from the interviewer but if you can, it will help with your future job applications. Just by knowing what strengths you have and things you should work on will encourage you to improve your approach.
Some companies may not let you know if you got the job. If a company hasn’t contacted you within the agreed time period, chances are you didn’t get the job.
But don’t let this discourage you, send them an email or give them a call and ask them directly about the position and how you did in the interview. With any feedback you do get – be it good or bad – be open minded and take the information on board as this will help you with future interviews and job offers.
Don’t lose momentum
Perhaps easier said than done but don’t let rejection affect you. Job searching does take persistence and resilience.
It’s easy to feel defeated in this situation but keeping up momentum is important. Reboot your energy and carry on searching for job opportunities. Even if you feel confident about getting a job offer, do your best not to stop searching for jobs until you have that concrete confirmation that you have received an offer letter.
Think about narrowing down your job search. If a part of your feedback was simply ‘’you don’t have enough experience in that particular area’’ then looking for a job role more suited to your skills will increase your chances.
At the end of the day, you will end up getting the job you want. Just have a positive attitude like Jasmine Pak on LinkedIn.
