Job description

Our press and digital team are one of the biggest 24-hour news operations both in Government and the UK. We set and respond to a fast-paced news agenda using traditional and social media channels.

 

HMRC is key to shaping the headlines around major global events, most recently including Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic. And with the country now facing cost of living challenges, we’re looking for an experienced senior social media officer to maximise HMRC’s digital communications.

You’ll deliver innovative, creative, and engaging social media for our campaigns, news, and PR activity. One day you could be working on the digital strategy for our annual Self-Assessment campaign, and the next you might be supporting our news function with developing a digital storytelling approach to news.

 

You will be an enthusiastic communications professional with a strong record of achievement in social media, excellent relationship management skills and a desire to explore new and creative approaches.

 

Beyond managing our social media channels and their output, you will also be involved in creating content, pulling together stats and coming up with creative ideas to drive digital channel shift to HMRC products.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide digital leadership in the comms community and be an advocate for the medium
  • Manage and lead social media campaigns for digital
  • Source and write clear and engaging content for our customers, using plain English, cutting through technical jargon
  • Contribute creatively to large-scale campaigns and lead on small-scale paid and organic social media campaigns
  • Content creation using image editing software and mobile to create engaging assets in response to business need - photography, filming and editing
  • Work with comms business partners and advise on appropriate digital strategies, content, and channels
  • Manage and prioritise wide ranging requests coming into the team from across the business and support the admin function of the Social Media team
  • Evaluate, report on, and analyse social media statistics and feedback to colleagues, making recommendations

 

Person specification

  • A relevant professional qualification in a communications discipline or equivalent experience
  • Have previous experience in a journalism, communications, PR or campaign role
  • Have extensive experience of producing innovative and creative digital content
  • Have a solid grasp of key social media platforms and social media best practices
  • Have a strong grasp of data and how to draw insight from it to make improvements to campaigns and communications
  • Understand how to tailor video products to suit varying audiences, platforms, and channels
  • Keen understanding of different digital platforms and a strong understanding of content management platform such as Hootsuite

 

 

Essential Criteria

  • Experience creating and supporting software solutions
  • Experience and demonstrable knowledge of working with a range of stakeholders to capture system requirements and other appropriate project documentation and turning these into technical solutions
  • Demonstrable knowledge and a proven ability to effectively communicate system changes, issues and risks to project leads and other stakeholders
  • The ability to self-start and be able to work independently or part of a larger team demonstrating excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Enhanced security rating to SC level or be prepared to obtain it
