Director Counter Avoidance

Expired

Job Description:

Job summary

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is one of the UK’s largest organisations, with over 65,000 employees, collecting over £716 billion in tax revenue.

The role of Director Counter Avoidance is part of HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group (CCG). CCG is the largest group in HMRC and has unparalleled scale, breadth and impact. Our role is to safeguard a tax system that relies on public trust. Taxpayers, rightly, want to know we will treat them fairly and professionally, and that we step in to enforce the rules where necessary, creating a level playing field for individuals and businesses.

The quality of our customers’ experience is important in helping us to build trust – as is our ability to recognise the personal circumstances that sometimes lie behind unpaid tax. When issues come up, our aim is to work with customers promptly and professionally, so we can get them back on the right track.

In CCG we segment customers and tailor our compliance activity based on their behaviours, capabilities and the level of risk. This allows us to identify compliance risks and customer needs, and to adapt our approach where necessary – to support people get their tax right, or to take targeted action against avoidance, evasion and criminal activity. The rules are the same for everyone, but segmenting our customers helps us to respond in targeted, proportionate and effective ways.

If you are ready for your next challenge and are interested in joining our team, we look forward to hearing from you.

Job description As Director Counter Avoidance you will lead a team that constantly innovates to tackle tax avoidance, which costs the Exchequer hundreds of millions of pounds every year, and which has very real consequences for the customers who get involved. You will work across the full range of our Prevent, Promote, Respond strategy. That includes taking strong action against tax avoidance promoters, and others who market, and profit from, tax avoidance; helping individuals exit schemes; and delivering targeted education to at-risk groups. Person specification

You will be an experienced tax professional with a strong track record of designing and implementing new policies and leading large operational teams. You will have a passionate commitment to customer experience, ensuring all our interactions meet the high standards we set ourselves in our customer Charter.

Working as part of an expert and high performing senior team in Customer Compliance Group, you will be accountable for continuing to build a highly-skilled workforce who deliver outstanding performance, and will play a key role in ensuring HMRC is a great place to work.

We encourage applications from talented individuals irrespective of background or life experience, and particularly from ethnic minority or disabled candidates who are under-represented at Senior Civil Service level in HMRC.
