Role: Principal Engineer

Salary: £42,000 – £52,500 DOE

Term: Permanent

Location: Oxford, UK

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a rapidly growing, ambitious space company concerned with the engineering and manufacture of battery cells. Their ambitions to succeed need to be matched by a like-minded Principal Engineer, who is ready to take their career to new heights.

The candidate for this Principal Engineer role needs to have previous experience working within a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety and accuracy.

 

Summary of the Principal Engineer role:

The role is in the Engineering department, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for a team of engineers who provide technical assessment, analysis, and data review for space projects throughout the project lifecycle.

The role will provide expert support in mechanical performance to projects, technical guidance to the mechanical aspects of cell qualification and testing, and be responsible for internal development projects within the area of mechanical performance.

 

Responsibilities of the Principal Engineer:

  • Provide expert technical guidance on the mechanical performance of Li-ion batteries
  • Performing structural analysis
  • Vibration and shock testing of cells/batteries expertise and/or structural analysis of components
  • Training Junior Engineers in area of specialisation through training and mentoring
  • Providing expert technical support to engineering and proposal teams for proposal production, customer enquiries and technical troubleshooting.
  • Review of work by other engineers, e.g. mechanical analysis reports, test procedures/reports
  • Direct line management of 2-3 engineers
  • Supporting Senior Engineers in work package definition

 

About you:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar STEM subject (must have)
  • Experience in a relevant role in space, aerospace, automotive or defence sectors. (desired)
  • High level of IT skills for data analysis, modelling and reporting (must have)
  • Programming experience for data manipulation (must have)
  • Experience in managing, mentoring and developing others (must have)
  • Experience working to tight deadlines (must have)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication(must have)
  • Understanding of ECSS standards (desired)
  • Experience interfacing with customers on a highly technical level, able to provide specialist guidance where necessary (must have)
  • Familiarity with Hazard analysis and FMECA (desired)
