Specifications Technologist – Food Manufacturing

Location:

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 per annum

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Specifications Technologist to join our team. As a Specifications Technologist, you will be responsible for generating and maintaining accurate raw material and finished product specifications, as well as managing specifications including the maintenance of customer portals. This role requires a strong understanding of food manufacturing, food legislation, and technical food specification writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create finished product specifications in our and/or customer formats within agreed timescales.
  • Review and update raw material and finished product specifications to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain customer specification portals, ensuring information is completed accurately and kept up to date.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food legislation and regulations.
  • Provide technical support to meet food safety, legality, and specific customer requirements.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with customers by liaising with them through accounts management, updating them on technical information, and responding to their requests.
  • Generate technical pack copy information and contribute to the approval process of artwork, labels, and packaging.
  • Maintain accurate finished product specifications for all customers and own brand products.
  • Collaborate with Technical, Quality Assurance, and New Product Development departments to ensure effective communication and coordination.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in a technical-based role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food legislation.
  • Experience with Specification Management portals/systems.
  • Good understanding of technical food specification writing.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Nutrition/Food Science (highly beneficial).
  • Experience of working directly with major retailers (highly beneficial).
