Orion Automation are currently in partnership with a Somerset-based pioneer in the instrumentation and telemetry industry who are experiencing significant and consistent growth.

As a result of this strong business growth, there is a requirement to recruit for an R+D Project Engineer to join their growing team. This is a newly created position as the company continues to go from strength to strength.

They offer clients a turnkey service to research, design, and manufacture a range of High-powered electromechanical devices, specifically tailored to perform in high-pressure and temperature environments.

The R+D Project Engineer Role:

• Assisting in the planning and delivery of new projects.
• Take projects from initial capture of customer requirements to field trials and commercialisation.

• Writing of technical requirements documents
• Review of relevant technical standards
• Development of project plans
• Liaison with engineers to establish timelines, costs, and risks
• Hands-on qualification testing, including assisting customers on field trials on location
• Troubleshooting and failure analysis
• Writing test reports and creating quality assurance documentation
• Working with the engineers to create clear customer documentation

Experience required

• 3+ years project management in new product development environment
• Proficiency in project management tools and software
• Multidisciplinary experience across mechanical, electronics and software

Skills & Qualifications

• BA in Engineering
• Working across cross-disciplinary teams
• Good general engineering design knowledge
• Strong organisational skills including attention to detail
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset
• Technical proficiency in all MS Packages such as Excel and MS Projects
• Good delegation skills
• Knowledge of different materials and manufacturing technologies
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Ability to travel locally and internationally when required
