Job Description:
Mechanical Design Engineer
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to grow your expertise in special purpose machinery and automated systems? This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, project-led engineering team designing bespoke automation solutions for a wide range of industrial applications.
Working across the full project lifecycle — from early concepts through to detailed design, build support, and installation — you’ll play a key role in turning customer requirements into fully engineered, robust and cost-effective machinery. Occasional visits to customer sites across the UK will be required.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Mechanical Design Engineer:
Developing mechanical concepts for bespoke special purpose machinery and robotic automation equipment
Producing detailed 3D designs, engineering drawings, and documentation
Completing design calculations, verification work, and technical checks
Managing project-related tasks including customer discussions, design reviews, specification of bought-in components, and BOM creation
Supporting CE marking, risk assessments, and compliance documentation
Providing technical guidance to system build and controls teams throughout the project
Proven mechanical design and concept development experience — ideally within special purpose machinery or automated equipment
Ability to create innovative, practical solutions that balance performance, cost, and customer requirements
Strong 3D CAD skills
Good understanding of British standards, geometric tolerances, and producing accurate design calculations
Familiarity with sheet metalwork, machined components, welded fabrications, and mechanical assembly methods
Self-driven, clear communicator, and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary engineering team
A good appreciation of electrical control systems is advantageous
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on varied, bespoke machinery projects and further develop your skills within a specialist engineering environment.
