SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-time, long-term temporary starting ASAP with potential to go permanentThis is an excellent opportunity for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a primary PRU that provides a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school focuses on helping pupils re-engage with learning through personalised support and a strong emphasis on emotional well-being. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm and structured setting where every child can thrive.Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist teachers in implementing behaviour management strategies and personalised learning plans
- Use de-escalation techniques and maintain a calm, positive approach in challenging situations
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development
- Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting to the class teacher and SENCO
- Promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing practices across the school
- Level 2 Team Teach certification is essential
- Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs in a school or PRU setting
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of strategies to support emotional regulation and resilience
- Committed to promoting inclusion and safeguarding children
