A high-achieving and inclusive primary academy in Enfield is seeking an exceptionally experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide specialist 1:1 support to children with autism and developmental needs. This is a full-time, long-term position for someone ready to take on a rewarding role supporting young learners with complex needs.

The Role
In this role you will be based in a specialist SEND class within a mainstream primary academy. The class consists of 12 students, aged 4 to 7 years (Reception to Year 3), all diagnosed with autism and non-verbal, with daily personal care requirements. Some children may display complex behaviours. The school is looking for a resilient, calm, and compassionate professional who can remain composed and supportive in demanding situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students throughout the school day, including in-class activities and transitions.
  • Providing personal care and support with daily routines.
  • Managing incidents safely and professionally.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Implementing consistent behaviour strategies and personalised learning support.
  • Encouraging emotional regulation, social skills, and engagement in learning and development.

The School

This primary academy is part of a respected all-through academy within the borough of Enfield. The school benefits from strong leadership, a supportive staff team, and well-established systems for supporting pupils with SEN. Although behaviour across the school is generally very good, this role is specifically to support a child with exceptional needs. The school works closely with the attached secondary school and there is a supportive and established leadership team in place. As a large school within an academy, there is good access to professional development opportunities and training.

Person Specification
This role requires someone with proven experience supporting pupils with high-level SEND needs, ideally in a primary school or specialist setting. The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, and skilled at providing targeted support for children with complex needs.

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience supporting pupils with SEND
  • Experience providing personal care to children with SEND
  • Confidence in managing high-intensity situations using positive behaviour support strategies
  • Immediate availability and commitment to a full-time
