School Premises Officer

We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive School Premises Officer to join a welcoming, one-form-entry primary school in Lambeth from April 2026.

The Role

In this role you will take sole responsibility for the management of the school premises, ensuring the building and grounds are safe, secure, and maintained to a high standard at all times. This is a hands-on role requiring strong organisation, computer literacy and the ability to oversee contractors and site operations independently.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Overall oversight of premises-related contracts and service agreements
  • Liaising with contractors and monitoring works to completion
  • Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, providing updates on site matters
  • Managing health and safety compliance across the school
  • Maintaining accurate digital records, including compliance logs and weekly fire alarm tests
  • Logging jobs and tracking maintenance via computerised systems
  • General maintenance and repairs across the site
  • Carrying out minor repairs and identifying larger works required
  • Setting up rooms for assemblies, events and activities
  • General site upkeep and basic cleaning duties

The role is offered on an ongoing contract basis from April 2026. The preferred hours will be 10am to 5pm although there is some flexibility on this including the option to work split shifts.

The School are seeking a premises officer with the following:

  • Proven experience in building maintenance
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational setting (essential)
  • Be physically fit and capable of carrying out practical site duties
  • Be computer literate, confident using spreadsheets and digital compliance systems
  • Have a professional, proactive and solution-focused approach
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one
