- Immediate Start
We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded primary school located in the Shepherd's Bush area of West London. The school is part of a well-established multi-academy trust and is known for its genuine, lived commitment to inclusion.
The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Years Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pre-verbal child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) within the nursery setting. This is a meaningful, hands-on role working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider team to ensure the child receives consistent, high-quality support tailored to their individual communication and developmental needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering focused 1:1 support for a pre-verbal child with ASC in a nursery environment
- Using and supporting augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies
- Working within the EYFS framework to promote learning, play and communication
- Collaborating closely with the SENCo, class teacher and external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists)
- Maintaining observations, records and contributing to the child's EHCP or support plan
- Supporting the child's emotional regulation, independence and social engagement
- Building a warm, trusting relationship with the child and their family
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children with ASC, particularly those who are pre-verbal or use AAC
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years or SEN qualification (desirable but not essential with relevant experience)
- Knowledge of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH (desirable)
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Commitment to inclusion and a genuine passion for Early Years SEN support
The Setting
This is a warm, community-focused school that places inclusion at the core of everything it does. Located in the heart of West London, it prides itself on being calm, purposeful and ambitious — a place where children are inspired, nurtured and challenged in equal measure. The nursery is central to the school's identity, offering a stimulating, play-rich environment with strong pastoral support for both children and staff.
