English Teacher – long-term cover 4 days per week until July

This role is based within a school that fosters a positive safeguarding culture where pupils feel safe and supported. Pupils build knowledge securely over time, and most achieve well at key stage 4. Leaders have stabilised the school and are taking effective steps to strengthen teaching, behaviour and attendance. A coherent personal development programme helps pupils understand diversity, stay safe, and access wider opportunities as they grow in confidence.

 

Duties as English Teacher:
  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that support pupils’ progress across key stages.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of learners, including those with SEND or gaps in foundational skills.
  • Implement behaviour expectations consistently to support a calm learning environment.
  • Assess pupils’ work and provide effective feedback to support ongoing development.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through collaboration and participation in departmental activities.
  • Support literacy development, including reading and writing skills.
  • Work effectively with pastoral and SEND teams to ensure all pupils can thrive.
Ideal English Teacher:
  • Qualified Teacher Status with experience teaching English.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to inspire a love of English.
  • Confident adapting teaching for a range of learners, including pupils with SEND.
  • Skilled in managing classroom behaviour calmly and consistently.
  • Organised, reflective, and committed to high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Able to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to departmental improvement.
  • Positive, professional and committed to pupil progress.
