Location: Aston, Birmingham
Hours:

Be the reason critical manufacturing projects stay on track.

Orion is hiring a dependable, relationship‑focused Buyer for a specialist engineering manufacturer producing high-value, low-volume, precision components for major defence applications.

This role is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys being a Buyer, thrives in a manufacturing environment, and wants long-term stability - not progression or management responsibility.

If you prefer supplier relationships over hard negotiation, like picking up the phone rather than hiding behind email, and take pride in keeping production running smoothly, this could be your perfect next move.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Buyer

  • Manage the purchasing of complex engineered components, including castings and customer‑specified third-party suppliers.
  • Ensure materials arrive on time and in full to keep production flowing.
  • Build strong supplier relationships: escalate early, solve problems quickly, and keep your orders prioritised.
  • Expedite, chase, and maintain supplier order books with accuracy.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, logistics, and operations as one collaborative team.
  • Support wider supply chain tasks when required — a no‑ego, pitch‑in culture.
  • Maintain accurate data and documentation within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Visit suppliers when necessary (driving licence required).

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven Buyer experience within a manufacturing environment (any industry).
  • Someone who is happy staying at Buyer level long-term — no ambition for progression needed.
  • Strong communication skills, especially over the phone.
  • Calm, proactive problem-solver who can manage supplier priorities.
  • Team player with a flexible, supportive attitude.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems.
  • Must hold a British passport (due to security requirements).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • CIPS is a bonus, not essential.

Why This Role Appeals to the Right Person

  • A people-first, supportive, and genuinely collaborative culture.
  • Flexitime start/finish options to support life commitments (e.g., school run).
  • Purpose-built, modern facility with excellent working conditions.
  • Early Friday finish every week.
  • Interesting engineered product environment with mission-critical applications.
  • A stable, secure long-term role — perfect for an experienced professional who takes pride in doing the job well.

Salary

£35,000 – £38,000 per year
