 Control & Instrumentation Engineer

We’re supporting a well-established operator in the energy sector who are looking to appoint a Control & Instrumentation Engineer to play a key role in maintaining and improving site-wide control and safety systems. This Control & Instrumentation Engineer position offers the opportunity to work on a mix of day-to-day operational support and technically challenging project work, giving you real influence over plant performance, safety, and reliability.

The Role – Control & Instrumentation Engineer

As a Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of process control systems and safety systems across site.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and delivering plant improvement projects, including developing scopes and schedules
  • Designing and implementing process control systems and safety systems as part of capital projects
  • Monitoring and supporting CAPEX & OPEX budgets for C&I activities
  • Taking ownership of smaller C&I projects from concept through to completion
  • Acting as Lead Engineer for functional safety, including development and ongoing support
  • Reviewing and improving Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to ensure compliance with international standards
  • Producing key documentation such as:
    • SIL verification documents
    • Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS)
    • SIL calculations using specialist software
  • Specifying, testing and commissioning control system and SIS upgrades
  • Ensuring compliance with hazardous area regulations for instrumentation design and installation
  • Supporting operations through fault finding, root cause analysis and system improvements
  • Providing technical support across site-wide systems, including communications and remote access
  • Leading and supporting C&I Technicians
  • Maintaining full compliance with statutory, legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting updates to the Safety Management System in line with legislative changes

About You

To be successful in this Control & Instrumentation Engineer role, you will have experience within a process, energy, or industrial environment and a strong understanding of control systems and functional safety.

You will ideally have:

  • HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience working towards professional registration
  • Knowledge of control & instrumentation design standards
  • Experience working within plant operations environments
  • Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis capability
  • Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Knowledge of:
    • IEC 61508
    • IEC 61511
    • BS EN 60079
  • Experience with PLC software, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
