Cover Supervisor – Long-term supply, full-time from April 2026 ongoingIn this long-term Cover Supervisor role, you will be joining a vibrant secondary setting where pupils benefit from a calm, purposeful atmosphere and engaging teaching that helps them make strong progress. Recent inspection findings highlight leaders’ clear vision, high expectations for behaviour and achievement, and the positive relationships that exist between staff and students. Teaching staff are well supported with professional development, and pupils are encouraged to become confident, considerate young people who contribute positively to school life.Duties as a Cover Supervisor:
- Deliver pre-planned lessons across the full secondary age range, ensuring continuity of learning in the absence of the class teacher.
- Maintain a positive, orderly classroom environment, following the school’s behaviour policy and using effective behaviour management strategies.
- Fulfil a Behaviour Mentor element to the role, building rapport with students who present additional behavioural needs and supporting them to engage in learning.
- Provide clear explanations and instructions, answering questions and keeping students on task throughout each lesson.
- Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to share information about pupil progress, behaviour, and any safeguarding concerns.
- Support the recording of attendance, completion of classwork, and any follow-up tasks set by the class teacher or department.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school as a Cover Supervisor, modelling professional conduct and a positive attitude at all times.
- Previous experience working in a secondary school environment, ideally as a Cover Supervisor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, or similar role.
- Confident behaviour management skills, with the ability to de-escalate situations and establish productive working relationships with young people.
- A genuine interest in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development, particularly those with additional behavioural needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with teachers, support staff, and school leaders.
- Adaptability and resilience, with the capacity to cover a variety of subjects and classes as required across the school day.
- Good organisational skills, punctuality, and reliability, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism as a Cover Supervisor.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, alongside satisfactory references and full compliance checks.
