Are you an experienced Technical Bid, Estimating or Proposals professional looking to take ownership of end‑to‑end quotation activity? Our client, a leading organisation in the manufacturing/engineering sector, is seeking a highly organised and commercially astute Estimator to lead their quotation function and ensure their bids are accurate, competitive, and fully aligned with customer requirements.

The Estimator is responsible for managing the full costing and quotation process from initial enquiry through to final submission. This role ensures that material, labour, and subcontract costings are accurate, competitive, and commercially sound, while coordinating workload to meet customer deadlines. The position also involves reviewing technical data packs to confirm scope, identify risks, and support the preparation of high‑quality, compliant estimates.

 


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the complete estimating and quotation process from receipt of enquiry to final submission
  • Coordinate and prioritise team workload across material costing, labour estimation, and quote preparation
  • Review technical data packs, engineering drawings, specifications, BoMs, and customer documentation to fully understand scope
  • Develop detailed and accurate cost models covering materials, labour, subcontract activities, and associated project costs
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, procurement, operations, and commercial teams to ensure estimates are technically and commercially aligned
  • Identify technical, commercial, and operational risks within enquiries and escalate as needed
  • Deliver estimates within required timescales, meeting both customer expectations and internal deadlines
  • Support the development of pricing strategies that ensure competitiveness while protecting business margin requirements
  • Maintain clear, structured, and auditable quotation records, assumptions, and supporting documentation
  • Drive improvements in estimating processes, including standardisation of costing methods, quality of responses, and workload planning
  • Provide guidance and direction to the estimating or quotations team to ensure accuracy, accountability, and effective output
  • Act as a key contact for internal stakeholders throughout the estimate review and approval stages

Skills and Experience Required
  • Experience in estimating, quotations, proposals, or technical bidding within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of material costing, labour estimation, and pricing principles
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and detailed customer data packs
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to balance customer expectations with business objectives
  • Excellent organisational skills and proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience coordinating or leading team workload
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively across departments
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical and numerical capability
  • Proficient with ERP systems, costing tools, and Microsoft Excel
