Job Title: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: Kent
Salary: £49,000
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (Days)
Hours: 06:00 – 18:00

The Role

We are currently seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will play a key role in delivering effective maintenance support across your shift, ensuring equipment reliability and minimising downtime.

The role involves both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown support across electrical and mechanical systems, contributing directly to site performance and operational KPIs.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across site equipment
  • Respond to electrical and mechanical breakdowns
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and permit systems
  • Support a strong safety culture and promote best practices across site
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective repairs using sound engineering principles
  • Carry out root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Work closely with production teams to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
 Key Accountabilities
  • Promote a safe working environment with zero lost-time incidents
  • Complete all scheduled maintenance tasks
  • Ensure timely response to breakdowns
  • Escalate major issues impacting production

 

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Recognised electrical apprenticeship with strong mechanical skills
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
  • Good IT skills (Excel, Word)
  • Strong communication skills and proactive attitude
  • Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement

Desirable:

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with PLCs and machine control systems
  • Knowledge of weighing and filling equipment
  • HACCP knowledge or training
  • FMCG or food manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in high-care environments
