Are you a qualified BSL Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role supporting deaf and hearing-impaired children? Do you hold a Level 2 or Level 3 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification and want to make a genuine difference in a child's education?

A highly regarded primary school in Hornchurch is seeking a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join their specialist Deaf Provision from September. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an inclusive mainstream setting, supporting pupils with hearing impairments to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of hearing needs within the school's specialist Deaf Provision. Working closely with teachers, SEND professionals, speech and language therapists, and families, you will help create an inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.

You will use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication, support classroom learning, adapt resources where necessary, and encourage pupils' independence both inside and outside of the classroom.

The school is particularly keen to hear from candidates with a Level 2 or Level 3 BSL qualification, although candidates with relevant experience supporting deaf children are also encouraged to apply.

The School

This inclusive and welcoming primary school is recognised for its commitment to supporting children with additional needs and has a well-established specialist Deaf Provision. Staff work collaboratively to ensure pupils receive the highest quality education and support, with a strong focus on communication, inclusion, and achievement.

The school offers excellent training opportunities, supportive leadership, and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals within the field of deaf education.

To apply, you must have:

• A Level 2 or Level 3 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification
• Experience working with children or young people
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to adapt learning and communication to meet individual needs
• Strong spoken and written English
• A positive, patient, and proactive approach

Experience within a Deaf Provision, SEND setting, primary school, or specialist education environment is highly desirable.
