Maths Teacher – KS3 & KS4

Our education recruitment agency is delighted to be recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Maths Teacher to join a welcoming and highly supportive Special Educational Needs Academy located in the south of the Royal Borough of Kingston.

This is a full-time, temp to perm opportunity starting in September 2026, offering the chance to become a permanent member of staff following a successful temporary period.

We welcome applications from both qualified teachers (QTS) and experienced unqualified teachers with a strong background in teaching Mathematics. Previous experience working within Special Educational Needs is desirable but not essential; however, applicants should have a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional learning needs.

The Role

As the Maths Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Maths lessons to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities.
  • Inspire students to develop confidence and enjoyment in Mathematics.
  • Assess, monitor and record student progress, ensuring learning is tailored to individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide the highest level of support.
  • Create a positive, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every student can succeed.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and support students' personal development alongside their academic progress.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience teaching Mathematics at KS3 and KS4.
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or has relevant teaching experience (QTS is welcomed but not essential).
  • Has excellent subject knowledge and a creative approach to teaching.
  • Can differentiate lessons to meet a range of learning abilities.
  • Is patient, adaptable and committed to inclusive education.
  • Builds positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Has strong classroom management skills and high expectations for all learners.

About the School

This specialist academy provides an outstanding education for young people aged 9-19 years with moderate learning difficulties. Every student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), ensuring that their educational, social and emotional needs are fully supported.

Many students also have additional needs, including:

  • Mild to moderate Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Emotional and mental health needs
  • Sensory impairments
  • Medical needs

Most students join the school from mainstream primary settings where they previously received full-time 1:1 adult support. Thanks to the school's small class sizes of 8-10 students, excellent staffing ratios and specialist approach, students are supported within a highly inclusive learning environment.

Students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) learn within mixed ability tutor groups for most subjects, while English and Maths are taught in ability-based sets to maximise progress.

At Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students follow a broad and engaging curriculum alongside the statutory core curriculum. Students also benefit from a range of option subjects, with all courses leading to recognised qualifications and accredited outcomes.

The school places a strong emphasis on preparing students for adulthood and independent living through:

  • Life skills programmes
  • Travel training
  • Work experience opportunities
  • Residential trips in Years 8, 10 and Post-16
  • After-school clubs and enrichment activities

The specialist Post-16 provision supports students who require additional time to develop the confidence and independence needed before progressing into further education. The curriculum focuses on functional life skills, employability and preparing students for adult life.

Student wellbeing is central to the school's ethos. A dedicated Wellbeing and Emotional Support Team provides targeted interventions including:

  • Individual counselling
  • Play Therapy
  • Dramatherapy

The school prides itself on its inclusive, supportive culture, where staff are encouraged to collaborate, innovate and make a meaningful difference to the lives of every student.
