Lead Engineer

Location: Leicester

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent – Monday to Friday

Salary: Up to £52,500 per annum

An experienced engineering professional is required to step into a leadership position, supporting the Engineering Manager while driving operational performance and team development. This role plays a key part in ensuring engineering excellence, safety compliance, and continuous improvement across site operations

Key Responsibilities needed for this Lead Engineer role: 

Leadership & Team Support: 

  • Lead, coach and support a team of engineers, providing hands-on technical guidance
  • Act as deputy to the Engineering Manager, overseeing activities and budgets when required
  • Ensure planned preventative maintenance schedules and corrective works are completed effectively
  • Support delivery of training for engineers and operators on equipment and processes

Compliance, Safety & Standards

  • Ensure adherence to QHSE standards, policies and procedures
  • Maintain compliance with risk assessments, COSHH, RIDDOR and relevant regulations
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure training requirements are met
  • Support maintenance of industry accreditations and standards

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Work closely with production teams to improve equipment performance and OEE
  • Lead initiatives around sustainability and waste reduction
  • Support installation, testing and maintenance of plant and equipment
  • Source spare parts and machinery via approved suppliers

Skills & Experience needed for this Lead Engineer role: 

  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capability
  • Financial awareness including budgeting and forecasting
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office

Qualifications & Background

  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds or apprenticeship)
  • Proven experience within industrial maintenance or production environments
  • Previous supervisory or management experience
  • Experience in continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives
