Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who can be a positive role model for children with additional needs?
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Hornchurch is looking to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs. The school is seeking a confident, resilient, and patient individual who can build strong relationships, provide consistent support, and become a positive role model both inside and outside of the classroom.
This SEN Teaching Assistant role is ideal for candidates with experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, or behavioural needs who are passionate about helping children reach their full potential.
The RoleAs a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work on a 1:1 basis, supporting a pupil throughout the school day. You will help them access learning, develop social and emotional skills, improve confidence, and engage positively within the classroom environment.
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will implement personalised learning strategies while encouraging independence and positive behaviour.
Responsibilities- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Special Educational Needs.
- Build a trusting and consistent relationship with your assigned pupil.
- Act as a positive role model through calm, patient, and encouraging support.
- Support pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, and associated behavioural needs.
- Deliver personalised interventions and follow EHCP targets.
- Encourage emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
- Support learning across EYFS, KS1, or KS2 as required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals.
- Help pupils develop confidence, independence, communication, and social skills.
To be considered for this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will have:
- A minimum of 1 year's experience supporting children within a school.
- Experience working with pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, or other Special Educational Needs.
- Strong behaviour management skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships and act as a consistent role model.
- A calm, resilient, and proactive approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Candidates with experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, behaviour support, youth offending services, or alternative provisions are also encouraged to apply.
