An outstanding two-form entry primary school in Edgware is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity, with the role continuing until July 2026.
The RoleYou will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 3 with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The pupil accesses the mainstream curriculum with the right support but can become dysregulated at times and may display behaviours that are physically challenging. The successful candidate will be confident in using positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to help the pupil regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning.
This role is ideal for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who is confident planning and adapting learning to meet individual needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to provide consistent, nurturing support and help the pupil make excellent progress.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism and SEMH needs.
- Planning and adapting learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
- Supporting the pupil's academic, social and emotional development.
- Using effective de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management techniques to support emotional regulation.
- Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.
- Encouraging independence, resilience and positive engagement in learning.
The pupil speaks Turkish, so applicants who speak Turkish would be at an advantage, although this is not essential.
Person SpecificationThe successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly Autism and SEMH.
- Experience managing behaviours that challenge using a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
- Confidence using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Confidence planning and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
- Experience supporting pupils in Year 2 and/or Year 3.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
