Location: Luton
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 Benefits
Working Hours: 37 Hours Monday to Friday with optional Start/Finish times

Monday – Thursday (06:00 – 14:15 or 07:00 – 15:15 or 08:00 – 16:30)

Friday (06:00 – 12:00 or 07.00 – 13.00 or 08:00 – 14:00)

Reports To: Test Manager

We are seeking an experienced HV Test Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is a hands-on HV Test Engineer position at the forefront of testing innovation, responsible for performing acceptance testing and reporting on electrical units in line with quality procedures and engineering requirements.

Working closely with Electrical, Hydraulic, Quality and Production teams, you will ensure test plans, quality standards and safety requirements are consistently achieved while supporting both current operations and future testing capabilities.

The Role

As a HV Test Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out acceptance testing of large-scale electrical equipment, monitoring and reporting test results, maintaining test systems and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities of the HV Test Engineer

Testing & Technical Delivery

  • Perform acceptance testing on industrial motors up to 13.8kV and 3.2MW.
  • Accurately monitor, record and report test data in line with defined test plans and engineering standards.
  • Complete and log test reports within engineering systems upon test completion.
  • Investigate and support the development of test data acquisition and control systems.

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety, ensuring compliance with procedures and safe working practices.
  • Ensure all test equipment is operational, maintained and correctly calibrated.
  • Work strictly to procedures and quality plans to ensure product integrity and compliance.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate with Production teams to support testing schedules for new units, repairs and spares.
  • Participate actively in LEAN and continuous improvement activities, including 5S and structured problem-solving initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the test environment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, quality and safety.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Level 4/5 (NQF) qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • High voltage awareness and practical experience working with high-voltage equipment.
  • Experience with large-scale test setups and power systems.
  • Experience working with data acquisition systems, test procedures and quality plans.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering environment.
  • Flexible, proactive approach with a positive, can-do attitude.

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledge of IEC and ISO testing standards, including IEC 60034 and ISO 9906.
  • Experience carrying out dielectric and performance testing.
  • Hydraulics and/or Variable Speed Drive (VSD) experience.
  • Experience with automated test control systems or LabVIEW.
  • Experience working within clean or controlled test environments.
