Job Description:
Mechanical Shift Engineer – Holborn, London
We're recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading provider of facilities management services, for an experienced Mechanical Shift Engineer to join their team on a prestigious commercial site based at Holborn Bars, London.
This Mechanical Shift Engineer role works a 4 on / 4 off, days-only shift pattern, and offers a salary of up to £47,000 per annum with no call out required.
About the Role:
As Mechanical Shift Engineer, you'll be part of a small, close-knit team structure – two teams of two, each pairing an electrical and a mechanical engineer, with five engineers on site per shift. You'll take a lead role in maintaining mechanical plant and systems, while working closely alongside your electrical counterpart to ensure full coverage across the building.
Key responsibilities of the Mechanical Shift Engineer role include:
- Delivering planned preventative maintenance across mechanical plant, HVAC, and cooling/heating systems
- Diagnosing and correcting faults directly – this is a hands-on role and works are not sub-contracted out
- Monitoring Building Management Systems (BMS) for running and alarm conditions
- Conducting building walk-rounds, meter readings, and fault investigations
- Producing accurate, timely reports and maintaining compliance records
- Building strong, professional relationships with the client and on-site representatives – this is a highly client-facing role, and the successful Mechanical Shift Engineer will be expected to attend regular client meetings
- Promoting safe working practices and high-quality service delivery
What's on Offer:
- Salary up to £47,000 per annum, no call out
- An additional £1,500 per annum available for engineers holding Authorised Person (AP) status in pressure systems and confined spaces – full training can be provided for the right candidate to achieve this
- Overtime available
- The opportunity to work on a high-profile consultancy-managed site, with genuine scope to build a long-term client relationship
About You:
- Time-served mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience
- Strong mechanical bias with solid all-round building services knowledge
- Comfortable working in a client-facing environment and confident engaging directly with client representatives
- Experience with CMMS and BMS systems
- Working knowledge of Permit to Work systems and technical drawings
- Confident diagnosing and resolving faults without escalating to sub-contractors
If you're an experienced Mechanical Shift Engineer looking for a new opportunity in a high-profile, client-facing environment, we'd love to hear from you – apply now.
