Job Description:
We are working with a small, highly creative engineering and product design consultancy that works across a wide range of industries and applications.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their small and highly experienced team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who doesn't want to spend their career designing the same product day after day. Projects can range from sports equipment and medical technology through to specialist filtration systems and completely bespoke engineering challenges.
Because the company designs, builds and tests what it creates, the role offers genuine exposure to the complete engineering lifecycle.
The PersonOur client is particularly interested in someone with around 2–4 years' practical engineering/design experience.
You could be someone who has:
- Started their career through a mechanical engineering apprenticeship
- Gained hands-on engineering experience before progressing into design
- Completed a mechanical engineering degree after gaining practical experience
- Worked in a mechanical design environment and now wants greater responsibility
More important than having the perfect academic background is having curiosity, creativity and a genuine interest in engineering.
You should be the type of person who wants to understand why something works, why it doesn't work and how to make it better.
The business values engineers who understand that engineering isn't always about getting something right first time. Designs are built, tested, challenged and refined - so a practical, realistic mindset is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Developing mechanical designs from initial concept through to manufacture
- Producing detailed engineering drawings and design documentation
- Working on a wide variety of bespoke engineering projects
- Supporting prototype manufacture, assembly and testing
- Identifying and solving design and engineering problems
- Working closely with the small team throughout the design process
- Learning and applying the company's established engineering methodology
- Continuously developing your technical and commercial understanding
Essential:
- Mechanical engineering/design experience
- Approximately 2–4 years' industry experience
- Strong interest in how things work
- Creative and analytical approach to problem solving
- Practical/common-sense approach to engineering
- Good communication skills
- Ambition to develop technically and professionally
Desirable:
- Apprenticeship or hands-on engineering background
- Experience taking designs through manufacture, assembly and testing
- CAD experience
- Experience working on bespoke or low-volume engineering projects
This is a chance to join a small, genuinely innovative engineering business where no two projects are necessarily the same.
You won't be joining a huge organisation where you become a small part of a massive design team. You'll have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced engineers, get involved across the entire engineering process and take significant ownership of your work.
There is also long-term progression potential, with the ultimate opportunity for the right person to develop into a senior position and potentially take responsibility for the business in the future.
This is ideal for an ambitious mechanical engineer who wants to learn, build things, solve problems and eventually become a key part of the business.
If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, then please do apply today.
