Job Description:
An established Tier 1 construction contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its growing Building Solutions division, working on a secured project for a key long-term client.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused QS to join a business with a strong pipeline of work across the public sector, defence, secured environments, refurbishment and construction sectors.
The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility for the project, working closely with the operational team to maximise profitability, manage the supply chain and identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risk.
The RoleAs Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the commercial performance of the project from procurement through to completion
- Maximising project gross margin and supporting delivery against budget
- Procurement and management of subcontractors, consultants, materials and plant
- Preparing, negotiating and agreeing subcontract packages
- Managing variations and change control with clients and the supply chain
- Measurement and valuation of works
- Preparing and managing subcontractor payments
- Supporting client applications and invoicing
- Producing monthly CVRs/VCRs, cashflows and cost forecasts
- Preparing and presenting final cost and value forecasts
- Monitoring project costs, value, cash flow and profitability
- Identifying contractual, commercial and operational risks and implementing appropriate mitigation
- Supporting the resolution of contractual and commercial issues
- Developing strong relationships with clients, consultants, operational teams and the wider supply chain
- Ensuring contractual obligations are understood and fulfilled throughout the project lifecycle
We are looking for someone with:
- Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction
- Main contractor experience would be advantageous
- Experience working on refurbishment, public sector, defence or secured environment projects would be beneficial
- Strong subcontract procurement and supply chain management experience
- Good understanding of CVRs, forecasting, variations and change control
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness
- Ability to identify and manage commercial risk
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams
- Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline desirable
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines
