About the role

Are you an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician looking for a new opportunity within a successful manufacturing business?

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our engineering and maintenance team at our manufacturing site in Grimethorpe, Barnsley.

You will play an important role in keeping production machinery and plant running safely, efficiently and reliably. Working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance (PPM), electrical fault finding, breakdown repairs and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone who enjoys diagnosing faults, solving technical problems and keeping production equipment operating at its best.

What you'll be doing

As an Electrical Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out electrical maintenance and repairs on production machinery, plant and equipment

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to reduce breakdowns and production downtime

  • Responding quickly to electrical and mechanical breakdowns and carrying out effective fault finding

  • Diagnosing faults on production machinery and restoring equipment to safe operation

  • Fault finding on mechanical systems, including gearboxes and associated equipment

  • Working with pneumatic and hydraulic systems and circuits

  • Supporting the reliable operation of manufacturing and production equipment

  • Working with on-site contractors and remote service engineers

  • Communicating effectively with production, engineering and external technical teams

  • Recording maintenance activities, breakdowns and repairs accurately using the CMMS system

  • Monitoring and managing stock levels of critical engineering spare parts

  • Identifying recurring equipment faults and contributing to improvements in machine reliability

  • Supporting continuous improvement and engineering projects where required

  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineering apprentices

  • Following all company health and safety procedures and engineering standards

  • Working flexibly to support production requirements, including overtime when required

What we're looking for

To be successful as an Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will ideally have:

  • A recognised NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification in an appropriate electrical or engineering discipline

  • At least 4 years' industrial maintenance experience

  • Previous experience as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Maintenance Technician, Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer or similar

  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or production environment

  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills

  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

  • Good mechanical maintenance and fault-finding knowledge

  • An understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Experience working with production machinery and industrial plant

  • Experience using a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system

  • Good IT and computer skills

  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers and production colleagues

  • A flexible approach to working hours and overtime

Shift pattern

This role operates on a 4-week rotating shift pattern:

Week 1: 6:00am – 4:00pm, Thursday to Sunday
Week 2: 6:00am – 2:00pm, Monday to Friday
Week 3: 10:00pm – 6:00am, Monday to Friday
Week 4: 2:00pm – 10:00pm, Monday to Friday

You will need to be comfortable working a rotating shift pattern covering days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Overtime may also be available to support production requirements and cover holidays or sickness within the engineering team.
