Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering business specialising in bespoke automation machinery and material-handling solutions.
Working within the design and production office, you will take ownership of projects from initial concept and layout through to detailed design, manufacture, installation and customer approval. This is a hands-on role combining mechanical design, project coordination, customer liaison and technical leadership.
The Role as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer- Prepare initial project layouts and develop detailed design proposals.
- Produce general arrangement drawings, detail drawings and parts lists/BOM schedules.
- Liaise with Sales to understand project specifications and customer requirements.
- Manage project budgets and work closely with Purchasing to maintain costs.
- Produce final build and installation drawings.
- Issue jobs to the assembly workshop and liaise with technicians throughout the build.
- Provide technical support to customers and assist with resolving design or application queries.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while working to tight deadlines.
- Visit customer sites to measure equipment and verify layout drawings.
- Lead customer meetings to approve designs and discuss timelines and build plans.
- Assist with technical leadership across the design office.
- Develop R&D concepts, designs, budgets and supporting claim reports.
- Assist with design risk assessments and technical documentation.
The successful candidate will have a strong technical engineering background, with substantial experience in the design and development of automation machinery.
You will ideally have:
- At least 10 years’ experience in engineering and design within automation machinery or a similar environment.
- Strong experience using
- Knowledge of manufacturing machinery or material-handling equipment.
- Good commercial awareness and experience working within project budgets.
- The ability to manage projects independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
- Excellent communication and people skills, with a professional telephone manner.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A full UK driving licence.
- £55,000–£65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Company bonus scheme.
- Paid overtime at time-and-a-half on weekdays and Saturdays, and double time on Sundays.
- Salary reviews after three months, six months and annually thereafter.
- Auto-enrolment pension after six months’ service.
