Water Treatment & Balancing Engineer

Location: Cambridge, with travel across Oxford, London and the wider South East
Salary: £45,000–£55,000, depending on experience
Package: Company van, enhanced benefits and expenses covered

Our client, a growing specialist contractor within the renewable energy sector, is looking for an experienced Water Treatment & Balancing Engineer.

The company designs and installs ground source heat pump systems across residential, commercial and public-sector developments. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative low-carbon heating projects and play a key role in developing the water treatment and balancing function.

The Role

You will be responsible for flushing, treating, balancing and commissioning heating systems to ensure they operate safely and efficiently from installation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Flushing, cleaning and chemically treating closed-loop heating systems

  • Conducting water-quality testing, sampling and analysis

  • Dosing systems with inhibitors, glycol and other treatment chemicals

  • Balancing heating systems and underfloor heating circuits

  • Setting and commissioning balancing valves, pumps and flow rates

  • Supporting the commissioning and start-up of ground source heat pump systems

  • Recording commissioning data and producing accurate reports

  • Preparing RAMS and other relevant safety documentation

  • Identifying and resolving system performance issues

  • Working closely with installation, commissioning and project teams

  • Ensuring work meets industry standards, health and safety requirements and project specifications

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in water treatment, hydronic balancing or HVAC commissioning

  • Experience working with commercial or domestic heating systems

  • A strong understanding of heating circuits, pumps, valves and flow balancing

  • Knowledge of closed-system water treatment and chemical dosing

  • The ability to interpret water-treatment sampling results

  • Strong reporting and general computer skills

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving

  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload

  • A full UK driving licence

Experience with ground source or air source heat pumps, BSRIA commissioning procedures or a mechanical/building-services background would be advantageous. Relevant CSCS, ECS, water-treatment or commissioning qualifications are also desirable.
