Working Hours: Monday 8.30am–5.30pm; Tuesday–Friday 8.30am–4.30pm

We are recruiting for a Permanent Teaching Assistant to join a small, nurturing specialist school in Wembley, supporting primary-aged children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

With small classes, high staff ratios and a personalised curriculum, the school focuses on helping pupils build confidence, develop positive relationships and experience success in their learning.

Therapeutic support is integrated throughout the school day, with Teaching Assistants working closely alongside teachers, therapists and families to provide consistent and holistic support.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide educational, emotional and practical support to pupils within your class and across the school.

You will work closely with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team to help pupils engage with learning, develop independence and manage their emotional and social needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting pupils individually and in small groups to maximise their learning and progress.
• Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive social skills.
• Supporting the monitoring and assessment of pupil progress.
• Preparing learning resources and helping maintain a stimulating classroom environment.
• Working closely with therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
• Implementing individual pupil support plans and contributing to EHCP-related provision.
• Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour, recognising behaviour as communication of need.
• Supervising pupils during lessons, breaktimes and transitions.
• Using safe approaches to moving, handling and physical intervention where appropriate, with training provided.
• Providing basic childcare and supporting with personal care when required.
• Supporting simple first aid once trained.
• Maintaining accurate records and communicating concerns to the teaching team.
• Developing positive relationships with parents and carers.
• Taking part in reflective practice, team meetings, training and professional development.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have experience working with children and will demonstrate:

• Experience supporting children in an educational, care or similar setting.
• Experience or a strong interest in working with children with SEMH needs.
• Patience, kindness, empathy and emotional resilience.
• The ability to build trusting and authentic relationships with children.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children.
• A positive and reflective approach to supporting behaviour.
• The ability to remain calm and consistent when working with challenging situations.
• A willingness to learn and participate in specialist training.
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and children's welfare.
